Blind Man Who Fell on Subway Tracks Can Keep His Guide Dog As a Pet

The amazing story of a blind man and guide dog who survived a fall onto some Harlem subway tracks Tuesday threatened to come with a sad ending: The man, Cecil Williams, would soon have to give up his dog, Orlando, once the dog reached retirement age next month. But thanks to the notoriety from the fall, donations for Williams and Orlando poured into Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which said on Wednesday it had received enough for Williams to afford to keep Orlando as a pet. Holiday feel-good story? Check.
