Rob Ford, who likes to do a little clubbing on the weekends, kept things relatively tame on Saturday night. But that doesn’t mean that he didn’t have a good time: The fun-loving Toronto mayor rolled through a fundraiser for the Beat Academy, an organization that is trying to come up with enough money to send some producers to South by Southwest. He even got to the opportunity to use a drum machine to drop his own not-that-sick beat.
Ford made up for his lack of style and talent with enthusiasm, grinning and pecking frantically at the keys as the audience occasionally cheered. At the end of the demonstration, he threw up his hands in a gesture of modesty, though the look on his face suggested that he secretly thought he was actually a pretty good deejay.
As an extra special bonus, Ford’s entrance music was Pusha T’s “Numbers on the Boards.” That song contains a sample of Jay Z lamenting, “Mothafuckas can’t rhyme no more, ‘bout crime no more,” followed by Pusha T rapping about selling cocaine. Like Pusha T, Ford is irrepressible.
