The NYC Health Department’s ubiquitous complimentary condoms are getting a redesign, although the Valentine’s Day announcement is a bit of a tease — the new varieties won’t be available until summer. The old black packaging and subway-line lettering, which always were a bit cheap- and dour-looking, have been swapped for a more lively blue wrapper, while the golden-crowned “KYNG” is a clear homage (ripoff?) to the extra-large Trojans. “We anticipate that New Yorkers will love the new look and appreciate the new size option,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett, to say nothing of the consistent pricing.
