Sandra Fluke has been openly pondering the idea of running for U.S. Congress to replace U.S. Representative Henry Waxman for a week or so now, but on Thursday, she announced she had decided against the idea, in favor of a more modest political goal: She’ll run for California’s State Senate instead. “While I strongly considered offering my candidacy for Congress, I feel there is a better way for me to advance the causes that are important to our community,” Fluke told the Los Angeles Times. The Wire makes the case that this decision gives Fluke a clearer path to victory and a deeper political résumé. It also allows her to avoid Washington, D.C.’s weather for another few years.
