As expected, Dominican-born Upper Manhattan Assemblywoman Gabriela Rosa pleaded guilty to paying an American man $8,000 to marry her in 1996 so she could become a U.S. citizen. She also pleaded guilty to lying about her husband’s income and her ownership of an apartment on a 2009 bankruptcy filing. Outside the courtroom, Rosa stressed the difference between her crimes from the kind of corruption we usually see in Albany. “I never abused my office,” she said. “I did not get rich. I did not take any bribes that you usually see other people get.” She’s been released on $100,000 bail and will be sentenced in October.
