LIRR Strike Averted; Peaceful de Blasio Vacation Saved

After working through the night to reach a deal, the MTA and Long Island Rail Road union leaders have come to a “tentative agreement” that will keep trains moving, the groups announced Thursday afternoon. Union officials and MTA representatives reached a compromise today in Andrew Cuomo’s midtown office. With negations floundering, the governor stepped in to mediate and it appears to have worked. Now the city’s commuters celebrate, but none more than Mayor Bill de Blasio, who can now go on his ten-day Italian vacation without worrying.
