Here’s a bit of good news you can cling to like a life raft in a sea of complete garbage: The American doctor who contracted Ebola performing aid work in Liberia has recovered, and is expected to be released from Emory University Hospital today.

Dr. Kent Brantly, who was working with the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse, was infected with the deadly virus back in July and transported to Atlanta to undergo intensive treatment in a special ward equipped to treat Ebola. The treatment included an experimental drug cocktail called ZMapp, and it’s gone well — so well that Brantly’s latest blood tests came back negative for the virus.

Emory University Hospital will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. on Thursday to discuss Brantly’s release, and provide an update on Nancy Writebol, the other American aid worker who was infected in July.
