A new report released by the World Health Organization warns that the Ebola virus could eventually infect more than 20,000 people before its spread can be effectively curbed. The organization reported that the outbreak of the deadly virus “continues to accelerate” across many African nations.

According to the latest figures released by the W.H.O. on Thursday, the death toll has risen by more than 100, to 1,552 out of 3,069 cases in four West African countries: Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, which had previously indicated that its outbreak was under control.
The organization also warned that transmission rates could be up to two to four times worse than current reports estimate.
WHO has also devised a road map to stop Ebola transmission, and it’s estimated to cost half a billion dollars over the next six months.
