Andrew Madoff, the last surviving son of the country’s most disgraced Ponzi schemer, has passed away at the age of 48 from mantle cell lymphoma, a rare cancer he’d beaten once more than a decade ago. His older brother Mark hanged himself on the two-year anniversary of their father’s arrest. “One way to think of this is the scandal and everything that happened killed my brother very quickly,” Andrew told People last year. “And it’s killing me slowly.”
Both brothers worked at the firm where Bernie Madoff managed his $65 billion swindle. “I think [Andy’s] perspective is, when all this happened, his parents ceased to exist for him,” a friend of Andrew’s told New York in 2009.
“I will never forgive him for what he did,” Andrew said last year. “He’s already dead to me.”
