We learned on Tuesday that ISIS has beheaded a second American journalist, Steven Sotloff, so naturally Sean Hannity went straight to Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson for analysis. (Hannity says he sees Robertson mainly as a “minister,” though you probably know Robertson as that guy who made offensive comments about gays, African-Americans, marrying 15-year-old girls, etc.) “In this case, you either have to convert them, which I think would be next to impossible — I’m not giving up on them — but I’m just saying either convert them or kill them,” said Robertson. “One or the other.”
Hannity predicted that overly sensitive media types would try to twist those remarks into something controversial. “I know there are going to be people that are always looking to jump on you … and they’re going to say, ‘there goes Phil Robertson again,’” the host said.
Robertson explained that he doesn’t want to kill ISIS members, but if they won’t embrace Christianity, the U.S. has little choice. “I’d much rather have a Bible study with them and show them the error of their ways and point them to Jesus Christ,” he said. “However, if it’s a gunfight and a gunfight alone, if that’s what they’re looking for, me personally, I’m prepared for either one.”
Interestingly, “convert or die” is ISIS’s policy, too, but we’re sure noted foreign-policy expert Phil Robertson already knows that.
