Leaflets found this week around the Marine Corps base and FBI Academy in Qauntico, Virginia, look an awful lot like ISIS propaganda. That is, except for one weird detail: Typed out below the familiar logo in Arabic script is a message reading, “We are here from Mexico and came by train.”
While the pamphlet, if real, would match Texas Governor Rick Perry’s elaborate fears about an unsecured Southern border, it seems odd that the terrorist group would be wasting precious pamphlet space writing about Mexico and their method of transportation when they could be arguing for their cause. (ISIS also prefers online recruiting to print.)
Nonetheless, NCIS is on the case and asking those in the area to be vigilant, but it has already dismissed the possibility that the pamphlets are connected to last week’s attacks in Canada.
On top of the weird anecdote about Mexico, the ISIS tawhid flag on the pamphlet is an upside-down mirror image of the real thing. If this was printed by an ISIS cell, the militants have a hell of a lot of trouble paying attention to detail.
