On Tuesday a 40-year-old woman died of an apparent heart attack at a hair salon in Brownsville. While she showed no symptoms of Ebola, city heath officials are testing her remains out of “an abundance of caution” because she returned from West Africa 18 days ago [Update: the results have come back negative]. The area was closed to the public, and several health officials were seen entering in hazmat suits. “You have a well-traveled area of Brooklyn with a beauty salon that is well-traveled, and we’re taking precautionary steps that if, in fact, this turns out to be a positive case, that we’re in front of it,” said Fire Department spokesman Jim Long.
