At a Wednesday press conference, a reporter randomly asked Mayor de Blasio whether he and/or wife Chirlane McCray had ever smoked marijuana at Gracie Mansion. (De Blasio’s answer was “no.”) The incident now seems less random. As it turns out, the reporter was from the conservative Daily Caller and, Gawker reports, the question was likely the result of rumors being spread by members of New York’s police force, which, as you are likely aware, is not currently on the best terms with the mayor. As Gawker’s J.K. Trotter notes, this doesn’t necessarily mean that de Blasio doesn’t smoke weed, or that it wouldn’t be newsworthy if he did, but it’s something to keep in mind as you chuckle over that NYU yearbook photo for the millionth time.
