A New York college student says one of the NYPD officers who was investigating her rape case urged her to drink with him and then groped her, according to an exclusive report from the Daily News. The victim says the officer and his supervisor were visiting Seattle in the summer of 2013 to interview her when the alleged incident occurred.
The now-24-year-old victim says she went out drinking with married Manhattan Special Victims Detective Lukasz Skorzewski, his boss, Lieutenant Adam Lamboy, and another woman in Seattle on July 6, and after she realized she’d left her car far from where they were, the detective suggested she stay with him in his hotel room.
That night, he gave her the bed while he slept on the couch. But the next morning, he allegedly lay down next to her and asked if he could kiss her. She said no, but eventually gave in to his advances. According to the News:
She said she told him she needed to leave her clothes on. Skorzewski laughed, she recalled. She had also told the man who raped her that she needed to keep her clothes on.
Skorzewski was aggressive, she said.
“He really felt me up, tried to get his hands down my pants,” she told The News. “He was trying to put his hands down my pants or work them up my shorts.”
The two continued to talk on the phone after he left Seattle, until Skorzewski ended things, which the victim assumed meant his wife found out.
“He should have been fired,” a police source told the News. “The woman was already in a fragile emotional state.”
New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault spokesperson Min Um-Mandhyan agreed. “It looks like he took advantage of his authority and the situation,” she told the News. “He gained her trust.”
Skorzewski was reassigned to Queens as a patrol officer last week after the allegations surfaced. An internal NYPD investigation is ongoing.
