New Satellite Images Show the Horrifying Extent of Last Week’s Boko Haram Attacks

Aerial photos released by Amnesty International show the sickening destruction of last week’s Boko Haram attacks on the Nigerian villages of Baga and Doron Baga. The photos, taken on January 2 and January 7, show the before-and-after effects of Boko Haram’s campaign, which has essentially leveled both densely populated villages, with some estimating that upwards of 2,000 people may have died.

These detailed images show devastation of catastrophic proportions in two towns, one of which was almost wiped off the map in the space of four days,” said Amnesty International researcher Daniel Eyre.

The red dots are trees and other vegetation picked up by the infrared imagery. In after photos, almost all of them are burned down.
