The New York City Board of Health held a vote today to decide the fate of pet ferrets, which are legal in New York State but have been banned in the city since 1959. Much to the chagrin of ferret activists everywhere, the board voted to uphold the ban, calling the domesticated weasels “uniquely problematic.”
Former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani famously hated ferrets so much he vetoed a bill to legalize them, and once went on a radio tirade against a ferrets’ rights activist, calling him “deranged” and telling him to see a therapist. Okay, Rudy, but do ferrets hate America?
