ISIS claimed on its official radio station last night that it was responsible for Sunday’s thwarted attack on a Muhammad cartoon exhibit in Texas, but it’s unclear whether it’s actually involved or “making the claim purely for propaganda value,” according to the Times.
ISIS identified the two suspects, who were killed in the attack, as “two soldiers from the soldiers of the caliphate,” and warned “the soldiers of the Islamic State will hurt you, Allah permitting.”
Messages uncovered from the Twitter account of Elton Simpson, one of the suspects, reveal that he was planning to move to Syria to join ISIS. His scheme was foiled last month when some of the people he planned to travel with were arrested by the FBI. Though Simpson pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, it’s unclear if he actually received any training or instructions from the group regarding Sunday’s attack.
“Soon you won’t be able to live in America as a Muslim,” Simpson wrote in one tweet, according to ABC News. “The noose is tightening,”
