“The Department of Management wishes to inform staff that bedbugs have been detected in an isolated area (two cubicles on the northern end of the 34th floor) of the Secretariat building,” read an e-mail sent to the staff of the United Nations’ Manhattan headquarters earlier this week. “We have every reason to believe that the problem has been contained, but will remain vigilant.” (This isn’t the U.N.’s first bedbug rodeo.) But watch out for hell’s little diplomats around town: Summer is their season.
