An enormous sinkhole opened up early this morning near Fifth Avenue and 64th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Its yawning maw is about 25 feet wide and 10 feet deep, according to MyFoxNY. Although the hole could easily swallow a car, no injuries were reported at the scene — even the stretch of sidewalk near the cave-in remains intact.
It’s unclear whether the sinkhole has affected water or sewage services in the area, but National Grid employees were spotted working on gas lines at the scene. It’s also unclear what caused the sinkhole (Satan’s blind rage at another artisanal kombucha bar?), but for now the intersection is closed to vehicles.
