The New York City mayoral election isn’t for another two years, but Bill de Blasio, though often not early to things, is planning to announce he’s running again for mayor at a fund-raiser tonight in a Times Square hotel. As of July, Mayor de Blasio raised a smidge more than $17,000, though his official “kickoff gala” will likely change that. Right now he’s the only Democratic candidate in the race, though he has one Republican challenger, Reverend Michael Faulkner, a Manhattan pastor who had a very brief stint as a New York Jets defensive lineman and who de Blasio could probably still beat even with an approval rating stuck at 45 percent. Meanwhile, Jimmy “The Rent Is Too Damn High” McMillan appears preoccupied by his 2016 presidential campaign.
