There’s been another subway slashing in NYC, this one on the 6 train platform at the Bleecker Street station. An Orthodox Jewish man, said to be in his 50s, was found bleeding around 3:30 a.m. Friday by other people in the station, who flagged down cops outside the station. “We just saw him coming up the subway steps and he was bleeding really heavily,” one of the witnesses told NBC 4. “We helped him out. We put pressure on his wrists.” The man allegedly had slash wounds to his face, neck, arms, and hands. The victim, who did not speak English and was apparently from Israel, was hospitalized. He’s expected to survive.
Cops are not sure what motivated the attack, and haven’t said whether it was random or a targeted crime. The suspect is still at large, and right now southbound 6 trains aren’t stopping at the Bleecker Street station as police investigate.
Back in January, a man sliced a 71-year-old lady in the face on the D train, near the Bleecker Street station — one of the first such attacks in a year where slashings are up more than 20 percent. Last month, the NYPD initiated its “Operation Cutting Edge” to help curb slashings and stabbings by classifying them as felony assaults and using CompStat data to analyze and better understand what’s behind these incidents.
