The Republican Party dropped an opposition-research file on Hillary Clinton Tuesday criticizing her for being a bandwagon Cubs fan. Entitled “Bandwagon Hillary,” the research file comes after Clinton’s traveling press secretary tweeted a picture of her gleefully celebrating the Cubs’ victory in the NLCS over the weekend.
So, what has the GOP found? Quotes to refute their own point. Clinton has forever claimed to be a Cubs fan, it seems. And it was only as she began running for office in New York that she started talking about the Yankees. Given her birthplace in suburban Chicago, Clinton’s allegiance seems legit. Still, the GOP attempts to tie her history as a baseball fan to a line from a speech she gave in 2013 — “You need both a public and a private position” — and nearly pulls a hamstring in the process.
