I’ll keep this brief: There is chatter floating around that Mike Pence’s website was hacked. It was not hacked — the screenshots circulating of officialmikepence.com are a parody site created for April Fools’ Day four months ago.
A couple of days ago, Democratic Party operative Scott Dworkin presented the hoax site to his 196,000 followers, not stating that the site had been hacked, but simply calling it “amazing.”
The misinformation seems to have taken hold this afternoon, thanks to tweets like this one, which Esquire cites in its post about the website.
Political journalists have since picked up the hack narrative.
A quick search of Pence’s Twitter account shows that he’s never once shared the URL. Snapshots taken by the Internet Archive show that the site is exactly as it stood on April 1 of this year. It’s a site made by Funny or Die.
