Wilma the miniature schnauzer is safely back at home with her owner in England thanks to … Jeff Bezos. Actually, it’s kind of Bezos’s fault she went missing in the first place, but I’m getting ahead of myself here. Wilma’s owner, Richard Guttfield, says the dog went missing after an Amazon delivery driver dropped off a package. Coincidentally, the package contained dog food.
“My puppy went missing after an Amazon delivery, and after an email to Jeff (Bezos)… we had someone who was amazing who tracked the driver and found our dog and brought her home,” Guttfield told CNBC. Bezos has infamously been very liberal with his email — [email protected] — often asking unhappy customers to get in touch. “Hi, hello, my dog was stolen,” definitely falls into the unhappy category.
Amazon called the incident “inexcusable” in a statement. “We take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages for the independent delivery service provider.” Worth noting that not all Amazon orders are delivered by Amazon staff, so the driver in question technically wasn’t an Amazon employee. Still, it might make you think twice about signing up for Amazon Key, Amazon’s new business venture which gives deliverypeople access into your home to drop off packages using a smart lock and camera system. Or, at least, maybe think twice if you have a cute puppy at home.
