ReRun supplies the charm of a drive-in theater without the pesky requisites of a car or being outdoors. An expansion of Jason Stevens's Dumbo gastropub ReBar, bench seats in the intimate space are reclaimed from old minivans (easier to snuggle on), and shelves are repurposed from bumpers. Vintage hubcaps, metalwork salvaged from Park Slope fences, and walls graffitied to recall the cityscape at sunset round out the "urban retro" look. But design is the only area where reRun borrows from the past. Stevens fronted $17,000 for the digital projection and sound system, which on its twelve-foot screen plays standard and Blu-ray DVDs of independent films curated by critic Aaron Hillis and focusing on works that have been on the festival circuit but have not yet secured distribution. Beyond two rotating draft taps, bar fare features bottled craft beers, organic wines, themed cocktails, and food with a gourmet bent: hand-twisted pretzels are stuffed with ground beef, homemade pickles top steak hot dogs, and the Mom & Pop’s Corn can be dressed up with everything from drawn butter to duck fat. Added bonus: no bug bites.
Private RentalDuring its off hours, reRun is available for private functions, with catering provided through reBar. Call 917-406-9192 for details.
