Profile
There's something quaint about this stadium that makes its lack of modern trimmings seem like charming touches of Jersey suburbia. There are no luxury suites, no brick-and-steel architectural touches, not even a video screen on the scoreboard. Instead, there's expansive lawn seating (open to ticket-holders and, if need be, overflow), bleachers for about a third of the 3,784 seats, and a black tarp down the left-field concourse to block the view of Monclair State University, which shares the field with the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Can-Am League. Named after Montclair resident Yogi Berra, the stadium is adjacent to the Hall of Fame catcher's museum and learning center. An arcade, a basketball hoop, and a pitch-speed station offer further distractions for kids uninterested in the game.
The Yogi Berra Museum and Learning CenterOf course, there's memorabilia from Berra's career (ten World Series rings) plus other Yankees relics, too. Yet the museum is operated independently of the stadium despite being architecturally intertwined: Part of the museum hangs over the first-base concourse while a box of stadium seats is literally attached to the museum.
