Profile
Perched on a cusp of Chinatown that realtors call Tribeca, Eden Day Spa seamlessly combines Eastern and Western spa traditions. Its international staff also contributes a diversity of expertise, evident in energetic Thai-influenced massages, exacting Russian-type facials, and thorough Asian-style manicures and pedicures. The spa menu, tightly edited for focus and effectiveness, emphasizes hands-on methods: Facials stress cleansing, hydration, and circulation rather than gimmicky gizmos; and no-nonsense massages, a source of pride for the spa, zero in on knots and kinks. Eden’s body treatments are as languorous as its massages are vigorous. During its signature body service, the Sandy Beach Scrub, all a client must do is take a steep step up into a free-standing deep wooden tub filled with water perfumed with rose petals and fresh lemon; here, for the next hour and a quarter, she’s bathed, buffed, and babied into a state of blubbering bliss. Eden’s dressing areas are spare, with a sauna for women and steam for men, but the plush pre-treatment lounge feels like a fantasy rainforest. Regulars arrive early to sip jasmine tea and snack on fresh fruit amid bamboo stalks, burbling pebble fountains, and moonlight-soft illumination. It all helps Eden Spa feel fifty feet and a world away from lower Broadway.
Extra
Leading ladies and lads, including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Gershon, and Kevin and Kyra are Eden Day Spa regulars. (Six Degrees Bacon requests the four-hands massage.)
Sales
A day package, seasonal treatments, and gift cards are available. Discounts are offered with prepayment of multiple services, and the spa’s website offers occasional specials.
Bridal
This expansive spot is a best bet for big bachelorette parties: The
8,000-square-foot space can host a private group of twenty for services like
manicures, pedicures, and hydrating facials. As a bonus, the kitchen whips up
delectable food (free for those who spend $80 or more).
