After working as a senior stylist at Privé Salon for five years, Tomohiro Nakamoto opened this airy, 1,200-square-foot Tribeca salon with his partner Masari Momose in November 2010. Bringing along a team of four, the close-knit staff has created a friendly, laid-back environment that lacks any pretense. Wrought iron chandeliers hang from the walls, a chalkboard wall faces the three sinks, and vintage briefcases serve as the stylists’ space for scissors, blowdryers, and the like. Using Shu Uemura products, glam dos like asymmetrical bobs with lots of volume can be created, as well as more laid-back, day-to-day, long-layered cuts. Though if it’s the former you’re after, makeup artist and expert eyebrow shaper Fumi Nagai, a fellow Privé alum, is on hand to create sultry, smoky eyes for evenings out. — Randi Eichenbaum
