By the mid-nineties, hair gurus Alain Pinon, Kao Hui, and Susanna Romano had earned their stripes as three of Manhattan's most sought-after stylists. But it wasn't until they combined their talentsand their first initialsto create Salon AKS that the haircare dream team truly made a name for itself. This airy, flatteringly lit space (located within window-shopping sightlines of Roberto Cavalli and Valentino) meets the expectations of clients who know precisely how they want to look after the last lock is snipped, and won't accept anything less than perfection. Thanks to a knowing and well-trained staff, the customer is always rightand always satisfied. The salon became so popular the owners built a second AKS on Fifth Avenue just to keep up with the demand for appointments. While this original location is best known for its precision cuts and hand-painted highlights, a section of it was renovated and redesigned as a spa, offering waxing, makeup application, manicures, and full-service pedicures in deep copper basins. And since getting spoiled has a way of stoking the appetite, staffers are always willing to order lunch for hungry customerssilver platter not included.
Extra
Jet setters need not miss their regularly scheduled touch-ups: Staffers also see clients at AKS's satellite salons in Palm Beach and D.C.

The go-to bridal stylists at Salon AKSMika Rummo and Nikki Rayprovide trials for $150 to $300. A makeup trial is $250 to $300. Wedding-day hair or makeup in the salon starts at $225 (for each). House calls are possible; prices upon request.
