Perched above the Soho Integrative Health Center, this 2,500-square-foot spa was a pioneering prototype when it opened in 1999, with a menu that was equal parts medical and holistic. Today, the handful of holistic Eastern therapies offered still jibe with the bamboo and Indian slate décor. But many of the clients sipping decaf green tea and grazing on spicy Asian snacks in the natural-hued meditation room actually await the more nitty-gritty skin work�like microdermabrasion, Epilight laser hair removal, and capillary-zapping FotoLite facials�that’s carried out under the supervision of spa founder and renowned dermatologist, Laurie Polis. Underscoring the increasing presence of Western innovations, a pedicure described as an �ancient chiropody� treatment incorporates an array of up-to-the-minute topical cosmeceuticals, high-grade glycolic peels, and elaborate trimming tools. About half of the Mezzanine’s clients frequent the center downstairs, too, where offices off the two-story lobby house a battery of specialists: an acupuncturist, a hair transplant expert, a shrink. It’s not uncommon for spa visitors to stop by Dr. Polis’s downstairs office for Restylane or Botox after indulging in an Eastern facial or a multi-technique �Mezzage.�
BridalThis East-meets-West medical spa specializes in therapies that are more potent than typical treatments but still feel indulgent. Standout services include nine types of massages and three forms of microdermabrasion (from $100). The Bride-to-Be package includes a facial, pedicure, and choice of body polish and wrap or a back faci
