Profile
After operating a Flatiron yoga studio that caters to those suffering from scoliosis and other chronic back problems for 15 years, Alison West opened an additional studio across the street for one and all in the summer of 2011. West employs rope wall stations and the same principals that used at her first studio mainly, safety and proper alignment to help her clients practice classic alignment yoga poses with ropes. And while the 3,800-square-foot studio is airy and calming, with light hardwood floors and jewel-tone accents throughout, there’s can be a sense of adventure to West’s sessions, for example, exploring how to hang upside down from your ankles. In addition to the rope classes, West and her team of 14 teach traditional Vinyasa and restorative sessions for individuals looking for a well-rounded practice. Teacher training, regular workshops, as well as retreats, are also offered.
Pros
The studio is one of the few in New York to offer yoga using ropes, adding some diversity to the sea of more common Vinyasa-only studios.
Cons
The
studio is still in the midst of ramping up its schedule and currently has only a few options in the early morning and late evening.
