When the Royalton first opened, the glam hotel set the tone for the lobby-lounge-as-nightclub trend that proceeded to sweep many city hotels. The rooms themselves have portholes on the doors, five-foot bathtubs and stainless steel sinks. White down comforters and pillows cover the beds while fresh flowers and candles contribute to the opulent atmosphere. Travelers who prioritize scenic views or balconies will have to look elsewhere, and some might find the atmosphere a bit stuffy. The gorgeous staff describes the (equally gorgeous) clientele as very �Condé Nast� or fashionable L.A.-types. Celebs and business bigwigs often opt for the Royalton’s alcove suites, or stop by Brasserie 44, the Royalton’s American nouveau restaurant.
