Review
Period movies with lots of sepia are usually soft in the head, but the nostalgic glow of Jan Troell’s Everlasting Moments only adds to the clarityand wonderof its vision. In his portrait of an early-twentieth-century Swedish family and the beleaguered mother who discovers the art of photography, the 77-year-old director takes no image for granted; the mysteries of light and shadow deepen the mysteries of love and longing. This is the best film on New York screens right now.
