Union Hall aggressively pursues the Park Slope nerd demographic with this monthly spelling and grammar showdown. Participants take the stage in a pair of gold pipe-cleaner antennae, which are summarily snipped with each wrong answer. (Lose both antennae and you’re eliminated.) Finalists face additional pressure when they’re given shots of booze before having to spell state capitals backward. The grand prize is a $100 gift certificate, but everyone involved is cheekily awarded with gags like Jesus action figures and bacon-flavored toothpicks. — Kaitlin Jessing-Butz
