After opening two wildly popular stores in Chicago, the owners of Belly Dance Maternity brought their sophisticated apparel for moms-to-be to this compact West Village location in 2005. Soft lights and neatly arranged displays create a soothing mood augmented by extremely personable service. Mainstream designers like Chaiken, Juicy, Michael Stars, and Paige provide most of the wares, so the looks reflect current trends rather than a stereotypical bow-and-polka dot maternity aesthetic. The store’s own line, NOM, emphasizes comfortable tunics, tanks, camis, kimono tops, cargo pants, and wrap dresses in rich colors and eye-catching prints. Lingerie offerings run the gamut from nursing bras and Spanx to sexy chemises and thongs.
