Profile
Nicole Tondre and Lisa Fuller, the duo behind East Village vintage standby Circa Now, opened a second, contemporary boutique on the cusp of Little Italy in summer 2008. The space is adorned with hand-painted furniture snagged from an antique auction on Long Island and tables draped in leather. Orange-tinged dressing rooms are covered with New York artist Andrio Abero’s glam wallpaper printed with models’ faces. The pair hand-picked a cache of around fifteen designers, including guy’s guy brands for men, like Off Bowery tees and Zig Zag’s lace-up canvas shoes, and youthful, fashion-forward lines for women, like Kova&T lace leggings, Blank and Grey Ant jeans, Christopher Deane cropped wool jackets, and silk dresses from Richard Ruiz and Society for Rational Dress. A few choice vintage separates can be found scattered around the racksa Schott black-leather vest; dated denimbut most of the throwback finds are still housed at Circa Now. Backlit cases display Andrea Corson’s gold-nugget rings, custom made for the store, and BiJules’s glossy synthetic-hair earrings (comb included). New lines are added seasonally, including newcomers like Denim & Thread jeans and perennial crowd-pleasers, like Tashkent’s cutout shoes.
