Profile
Inspired by Gant's Ivy League roots, the Rugger offshoot debuted in 1979 aimed at collegiate fans of the brand seeking a contemporary fit and feel. More than 30 years later, the distressed wood floors, exposed brick, and rustic, industrial ambiance of its large Prince Street location emphasize the Americana from which Gant Rugger originated, while the apparel asserts the label’s modern style. All Rugger’s noted staples can be found here, including tailored Oxfords, slim-cut blazers and slacks, classic fall knits, rugged flannels and casual madras dress shirts adorned with patterns from Gant's archives. Since taking the helm as head designer, Christopher Bastin has added his own fresh take to the brand, instilling it with vintage-inspired rugged sophistication and paying close attention to fit. Michael Bastian has also lent his talents to an independent line tailored for taller Gant enthusiasts; these items can be found at Rugger for a fraction of their normal cost.
