Profile
Peter Som, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Zac Posen: The labels on the racks at Ina read like The Daily during Fashion Week. The couture consignment store is famously known for acquiring the Sex in the City wardrobe library when the show wrapped, and since then they’ve kept their reputation going as the place for used designer clothes at half the original price. The inventory changes constantly, and it’s worth it to visit frequently for pieces in your size. If after 30 days a consignment hasn’t sold, the price is slashed, and will continue to drop until purchased. Sizes tend toward the small, since many items were samples for photo shoots or runway shows, and there really isn’t much of a selection at the big end of the sizing spectrum. The store buyers have a good eye for separating signature pieces from passing trends, so while most items are a season or two old, they still look fresh on the hanger. Case in point: a beautifully draped Zac Posen dress, for $900, or an elegant Chanel evening coat, for $1,100, will look just as classically beautiful ten years from now as they do today. Shoes (Manolos, Louboutins), ever so lightly worn, are in the back near the handbags and accessories.
