Profile
To browse Keetsa, a Soho-based, ecofriendly mattress store, is a lunch-break dream. For starters, there is a caffeine-stocked tea bar in the back complete with a TV looping Discovery Channelesque nature shows. A lavender-oil diffuser is so pleasantly potent that relaxation nearly feels like a requirement. And with store manager Shane Osgood encouraging customers to prop their feet up on the memory-foam-topped mattresses, a cat nap doesn’t seem too far off. Keetsa’s ecofriendly mattresses come in seven varieties, all under $2,200. The Keetsa Cloud and Tea Leaf Supreme are comparable to Tempur-Pedics, though softer and more cushioned, while the Keetsa Plus and Tea Leaf Classic offer a firmer feel. All of the mattresses contain 12 percent less petroleum than non-ecofriendly mattresses, but the Keetsa Latex goes a bit further, made of organic cotton, organic wool, and a top layer of all-natural latex rubber. Keetsa’s ecofriendly mission doesn’t end with the mattresses, either: there are 10-foot-high beams of reclaimed wood serving as headboards; recycled-cardboard-box paneling lining the storage stairwell; and handpicked spindly twigs and sprigs climbing up the white walls as décor. Even the size-reduced mattress packaging ties into the environment-aiding missionplus, when opened, a strong green-tea scent wafts out.
