Profile
Situated kitty corner from the Marc Jacobs accessories shop, Jacobs’s kids clothing boutique is more colorful than the five others in his West Village mini-empire, but no less sleek. Stacks of books in the front window cater to city kids, with titles like This is London and the simplified rock reference M is for Metal, as do the Rockabye Baby CDs featuring kid-worthy covers of Bjork and The Cure. In a wall-sized photo facing the entrance, a decked out toddler sports the beginnings of a faux hawk. Miniature, retrofitted styles similar to the Marc Jacobs adult lines are carried in sizes 2 to 12, like graphic t-shirts, tailored cotton dresses, 100% silk button-downs, and perfectly pleated pea coats, most exceeding $100. Others poke fun at the adult line’s conspicuous branding, like tot-sized spring jackets reading Marc Who? across the back. Metallic ballet slippers, suede sneakers, and mousey whisker-and-ear-topped flats line shelves between racks, while discounted items from previous collections fill rear cubbies. Sugar-fueled kids fresh from Magnolia Bakery play with stuffed animals while parents browse. A case near the register holds international antiques for upscale baby shower gifting, like 19th century silver boxes from Argentina and child-sized Qing Dynasty-era Chinese bracelets.
