Where the meatpacking district borders Chelsea, Barnes tailors vintage chiffon, lace, and silk to create ready-to-wear clothing. Barnes describes her diffusion line, Zelie, as "sexy, easy beach clothes you can wash in the sink." (Fans lovingly refer to the line as "beginner Barnes.") There are hippie-chic skirts, fun embroidered tees, and stretch-denim strapless dresses. Prices for the Zelie collection, which is also carried at Anthropologie stores, go from $50 and up. The Scottish designer isn't neglecting the high end, either. The designer collections are priced from $100 to $1,000, and feature asymmetrical silk skirts, satin-lined lace tops, and silk halters that are irresistible. Which is exactly how many of us feel when wearing Lucy's lovely designs.
