Profile
Brooklyn designer Mary Meyer’s first retail venture is more flea market than boutique. Instead of opening a small shop to exclusively sell her pieces, Meyer created a space where she could incorporate some of her favorite brands as well as showcase the talents of fellow designers. The result is an assemblage of requisite Brooklyn style housed in an industrial building with whitewashed walls, exposed pipes, and merchandise displays made from tree branches. The space is home to Meyer’s open studio, a small vintage shop from Bogart & Moore, and a footwear section featuring brands like Dolce Vita and Jeffrey Campbell, the result of a collaboration between Meyer and Williamsburg’s Shoe Market. And then of course a large portion of the store is devoted to Meyer’s own designs, which feature the custom prints and edgy cuts that have won her the affection of the young and hip. Bleach splatters that evoke cosmic swirls and prints influenced by African textiles adorn her signature clothing items; there’s also an assortment of chic yet utilitarian scarves, handbags, and totes. The multifaceted designer creates earthy and edgy jewelry as wellgems wrapped in knit string and geometric porcelain pendants are sold alongside accessories from other brands, such as Costalot’s hand-dyed sunglasses.
