Upper East Side prep gains a brightly colored playful side with Milly. Geometric patterns and classic Mad Men-approved styles�think pleated and flared skirts and belle sleeves�create a sense of �60s mod without straying too far from the neighborhood’s polished Gossip Girl aesthetic. Filled with feminine items like cocktail party dresses and the capsule collection of custom order gowns and bridesmaid dresses that make up the Milly bridal line, the shop may not be the best place for pant-shopping. Accessories, however, are taken care of. Depending on the season, the store carries jewelry, swimwear, hats, gloves and scarves, hosiery, and handbags, as well as small leather goods, all by Milly’s Michelle Smith. And for mothers who insist on matching outfits, the Milly Minis collection offers pint-sized outfits to correspond with the adult-size silhouettes. Though the offerings are drawn almost exclusively from the Milly line, there are a few handpicked items like vintage jewelry from Cocotay, and collaborations like Milly for Sperry Top-Sider are also represented. The shop keeps things fun with fuschia velvet loveseats and leopard print trimmings, and if the tidy displays are missing a specific size, shoppers can ask a salesgirl as extras are kept in the back.
