Modell's

Profile
This regional chain boasts more than 135 locations throughout ten Northeastern states, but it can trace is roots to Cortlandt Street in lower Manhattan. Here, the Modell family opened its first store in 1889, making it the second-oldest sporting-goods retailer in the country. Still family owned to this dayit’s passed through four generations of ownershipthe comprehensive sporting inventory caters to individual sports (tennis rackets and golf clubs), as well as team ones (baseball bats and hockey sticks), although inventory fluctuates depending on the season. And while the spectrum of athletic equipment available at Modell’s is impressive, it does mean that elite brands and specialty items for any particular activity are scarce. Casual athletes will be satisfied with a generous selection of sports apparel and footwear; those who prefer the sidelines will find a sizable selection of licensed jerseys, hats, and shirts from the local clubs.
