You don’t have to be planning an adventure of Himalayan proportions to make use of Patagonia’s outdoorsy apparel. Sure, the store invokes rainforest treks, Arctic explorations and Hawaiian surf adventures, but their goods work just as well on a cold subway platform in February or catching waves at Jones Beach. In addition to warm fleece vests and jackets, Patagonia carries well-made sportswear for men and women designed for yoga, running, hiking and biking, as well as swimsuits, messenger bags and luggage. Some lines reject the dominant granola aesthetic, forgoing adjustable waists and cargo pockets for flirty skirts and smart pants. Much of the clothing is made of environmentally friendly hemp or organic cotton; even the fleece is famously made from recycled plastic. Most everything is Patagonia-branded, but non-house lines include Kaenon Polarized and Smith sunglasses. The Soho flagship also stocks surf gear; a small alcove displays sporting magazines and books, many about environmentalism and conservation, and tabletop pamphlets on ecological issues.
Kid SizesPatagonia has kid-sized versions of many popular pieces, including whimsically-patterned fleeces; baby sizes from three months, kid’s sizes up to 14.
