Profile

Husband-and-wife team Steve Flynn and Shelly McClure have collected 300 wines, favoring old-world styles from family farms and small-production vintners like Burgundy’s fourth-generation Domaine Rollin and Mendecino Valley’s Mary Elke. Shelly, who’s formerly of Matthews Architects and now owns an eponymous design firm, planned the 500-square-foot corner space with its wall of windows overlooking Ludlow’s busy foot traffic, in which most bottles are organized by region. There are also clusters for women winemakers, wines from "Off the Beaten Path" (vintners from emerging regions like India, Morocco, and Slovakia), organic and biodynamic producers, and sparklers. Bottles range from $6.99 to $400, about half of which are priced under $15. The well-curated stock also features a bourbon-heavy liquor selection that includes rarities like a sixteen-year-old reserve from the now-defunct A.H. Hirsch distillery. A dozen sakes are also on hand such as Yuki No Bosha’s small-production sake (crisp and piney from its high-altitude growth) and Poochi-Poochi, one of only two domestically imported sparkling sakes.
