Celebrity party and wedding planner David Tutera opened his second full service floral and gift shop in the Plaza Hotel in November 2008. The smell of fresh flowers permeates the space, lavishly decorated in a combination of modern and old European styles. Lucite displays of vases, candles, glasses, and scent diffusers rest on stone floors crisscrossed with rustic wood. Flowers are available in arrangements as simple as a single bud, or as complex as an artful display of cala lilies, orchids, and amaryllises, custom-made for both walk-in customers and VIPs (Tutera’s past clients have included Elton John and Jennifer Lopez). The best selling gift items are similarly high-end: crystal-encrusted candelabras and jewel boxes from Isabella Adams, exotic palm oil candles and bath salts made from 250-year-old Himalayan crystal salt, and jewel-tone stemware by Alan Lee. — Jacquelyn Lewis
