Profile
The Latin name (uva = grape) is the only egghead element to this wine shop. Otherwise, the store is notably egalitarian in its prices, its layout, and the manner of its staff. Many bottles are displayed on tilted racks comfortably at eye level, an impressive feat given that over 300 labels are packed into under 500 square feet. Among the many selections (the lion’s share being from small producers), over 100 cost $12 or lessfrom a Sangiovese-based vino da tavola to a sparkling chenin blanc. Options from France and Italy are particularly strong. And since the staff tastes almost everything on hand, salespeople are quick to offer recommendations and strong opinions, when they’re not explaining that the green dots speckling the shelves indicate organic and biodynamic wines.
ExtraFree delivery with no minimum purchase is offered within Williamsburg. Free delivery anywhere else in New York City is available for orders of $200 or more.
SalesAll cases of wine score a 10 percent discount. A 5 percent discount is given for purchases of six bottles of wine.
