‘He never went in’: Sheriff says armed school resource officer didn’t pursue Parkland shooter

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters that an armed school resource officer, Scot Peterson, who was on the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at the time of the shooting, did not go into the school to engage the gunman. Israel said that after viewing a video and interviewing witnesses, Peterson resigned and retired from the police force. An investigation is ongoing.
