New York City shows the love for Scruggs after fencing gold

New York City Hall was lit up in red, white and blue after New York native Lauren Scruggs helped her team win a gold medal in women’s team foil.

Scruggs and Lee Kiefer, Jackie Dubrovich and Maia Weintraub beat the Italian team for the top Olympic honor. Scruggs, 21, is from Queens.

The U.S. women's gold is the first U.S. team gold in the history of the Olympic sport. The U.S. women won silver at the Beijing Games in 2008.

Flavor Flav and Reddit's Alexis Ohanian help cover Olympian Veronica Fraley's rent

Ahead of her Olympics debut, track and field athlete Veronica Fraley had a more pressing concern on her mind than the Games: paying her rent on time.

Fraley, 24, lamented her situation on social media today as she prepared for her women’s discus throw qualification round in Paris.

“I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent” Fraley, the 2024 NCAA discus champion, wrote on X. “my school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses”

Her post quickly drew the attention of rapper Flavor Flav and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who both responded online pledging to help by sending Fraley some money directly.

Swimming: Douglass now has a complete set of Olympic medals

With her gold medal swim in the 200-meter breaststroke, Kate Douglass has rounded out her Olympic collection.

She now has a medal in every color.

She collected a silver in Paris as part of the 4X100 freestyle relay and scored bronze in the 200-meter medley in Tokyo.

But just because she has one in every color doesn't mean she's done hunting for gold. She competes again Saturday in the 200-meter individual medley.
